Your First Consultation
Your first consultation with your Osteopath will last approximately 45 minutes, with all subsequent treatments lasting 30 minutes. In order to diagnose you appropriately, your Osteopath needs to gather as much information from you as possible, so your full medical case history will be taken, in order for us to choose an examination plan that will enable an appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
Often, musculoskeletal pain is a simple mechanical joint and tissue problem which will respond well to Osteopathic Treatment. However, occasionally a consistent pain or ache may be caused by a more serious underlying problem. If further tests or x-rays are required, we may refer you on for these so we can rule out anything more serious.
The Examination
Once your medical history has been taken, with your permission a skeletal examination and testing will occur. During the examination, you may be required to undress to your underwear, at which point your Osteopath can leave the room for your privacy. We advise wearing stretchy/comfortable trousers or shorts for your consultation and a gown can be provided.
Patients under the age of 16 must bring a parent or guardian with them who will need to be present throughout every consultation.
